Candlelight Trails: Under the Wolf Moon

Candlelight Trails: Under the Wolf Moon

Saturday, January 18
7 – 9 pm

This event was originally scheduled for Saturday, January 11. However, due to the winter storm watch in effect for the weekend of January 10 – 12 and the snow and freezing rain predicted in the weather forecast, this event has been postponed until Saturday, January 18.

Traditionally called the "Wolf Moon," January's full moon is associated with the largest member of the wild dog family that hunts and howls particularly loudly at night during this time of year. Although once present in all 83 Michigan counties, today wolves mainly occupy the Upper Peninsula. Help us celebrate this year's Wolf Moon at the Institute. Come howl at the moon and enjoy the sights and sounds of January's full moon on candlelit trails. After self-guided hiking on the trails, warm up in the Visitor Center with a crackling fire, coffee, and hot chocolate. Weather permitting, stargazing and snowshoes also may be available.
